Sundance Film Festival Films Announced
  Sundance Institute has announced the Sundance Film Festival line-up of dramatic, documentary, and short films representing the work of 55 first-time feature filmmakers. Festival programmers selected the lineup of 121 feature films and 83 shorts from a record number of submissions. The Festival opens on January 17 in Park City, Utah with the world premiere of In Bruges (pictured left), written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker and award-winning playwright, Martin McDonagh. Building on the Festival's commitment to short films as a significant creative force in filmmaking, beginning January 18, one new short film will stream online for 24 hours, free of charge at the Festival's Official Website throughout the ten-day Festival. Additionally, an exclusive selection of the '08 Festival shorts will be available for purchase and download on three platforms: Apple's iTunes Movie Store, Xbox LIVE, and Netflix.com.
   
 
Slamdance appoints Exec Director, revamps website
 

The Slamdance Film Festival has appointed Drea Clark as Executive Director. In addition to overseeing the year-round direction of Slamdance, she will serve as chair of narrative feature competition programming. Peter Baxter, co-founder remains as President. Slamdance also has announced its feature film slate and special program schedule for the fest, which takes place in Park City, Utah, January 17-25. PSA Contest call for entries
 

Make a Public Service Announcement to End Cyberbullying, a growing problem among children and teenagers on the Internet, and something that filmmakers can help address and solve. Sony Creative Software, the National Crime Prevention Council and the Ad Council are seeking entries from independent producers and academic institutions (K-12). Top submissions may be eligible for national broadcast, and the producer(s) or sponsoring institution will receive a complete multimedia editing suite for their facility or school valued at over $18,000. Prize sponsors include Sony Creative Software, Sony Electronics and Sony VAIO. Contest judges include producer/director Barry Sonnenfeld, producer/writer Steve Oedekerk, Justin W. Patchin, Ph.D., noted authority on social networking and cyberbullying, and members of the Ad Council’s Campaign Review Committee. All entries must be received by January 11, 2008 to be eligible. Film Independent Directors Lab deadline Dec 14
 

Film Independent is accepting submissions for its next Directors Lab. A maximum of 10 directors will be chosen for this intensive seven week-program designed to help directors working in independent film improve their craft. Under the guidance of the Lab Instructor, Lab fellows select short films from their feature scripts and take them through production. Film Independent provides basic camera and sound packages and helps partner the directors with crew. Lab Fellows also have one-on-one meetings with professional advisors—working directors, producers, and other industry professionals—to discuss their features. Lab Fellows receive a complimentary pass to Film Independent's annual Director Series, which runs concurrently.
